Holly passed away Friday, June 9, 2017 at Marion Manor in Glen Ullin after a courageous three year battle with cancer.

Hollis (Holly) Ann Sanders was born January 15, 1949 in Redfield, South Dakota. Hollis and Lillian Sanders celebrated the arrival of their daughter because it was a dream finally coming true after so many years.  Loving memories were captured and embraced during this family’s relatively short time together.  Holly’s dog, Nubbins, was included in family pictures and stories, especially the one about Nubbins singing along as Holly played piano.  Her childhood was shaken at age 12 when her father unexpectantly died, followed by the sudden death of her mother 10 months later.  With few possessions in hand, Holly was moved to Carson City, Nevada to live with her cousin Josephine Cowperthwaite.  Determined to come back home, Holly moved to Linton, ND her junior year of high school to live with Dewey and Florence Lawler on their farm.  She enjoyed her time with them along with farm life.  Holly graduated from Linton High School in 1967 with teachers and students whom she appreciated.  Following graduation, she enrolled in summer school at Northern State University in Aberdeen, SD.  For the next 2 ½ years her field of study was elementary education.  Informally, she started learning how to do hair back in her all-girl dormitory.  A lot of time was spent cutting, coloring, and styling; consequently, Holly questioned if attending beauty school would be a better career choice.  Well, off she went to Jack’s Beauty School in Bismarck, ND.  Her first job as a cosmetologist was at the Grand Pacific (GP) Hotel in downtown Bismarck.  She moved on to Sally’s Beauty Boutique where she remained for 14 years.  Holly married Clyde Terras on November 3, 1973.  They lived in Bismarck for 5 years then moved to Hebron to reside on the family farm.  Holly’s career as a hairdresser expanded across 45 years, most notable were
The Golden Comb
owned by Terry Hiller and
Magic Mirror,
which she owned and operated until her retirement in 2012. She referred to her customers as “my ladies!”  No one can deny the close bond established between women and their hairdresserJ  Holly enjoyed participating in community activities so through the years she was active in Loose Threads Quilt Club, St. John’s Church Choir, Happy Homemakers, Girl Scouts, Jaycees, and Sunday School. She was artistically talented with sewing, crocheting, and quilting, as she typically had 10 projects going simultaneously, and of recent, they were clothes for her granddaughter Elsa.  Camping with friends was another love of hers.  She will be remembered as a generous, compassionate lady who left heartprints on so many.  Holly’s sense-of-humor was another notable characteristic with her four grandsons (Griffin, Owen, Alec, Luke) provoking much laughter with their boyish behaviors.  She was blessed to meet her youngest granddaughter, Nora, before she joined her loved ones in Heaven.  Holly is preceded in death by her parents, Karen Wahl (sister-in-law) and Jacob and Frieda Terras (father/mother-in-law).  She is survived by her husband (Clyde) of 43 years, 4 children, and 6 grandchildren:  Tim, Tessa, Owen and Griffin Terras (Fargo), Katherine, Mark, Alec, Luke, and Elsa Reinhart (McVille), Michael and Tammy Terras (Lincoln), and Eric, Nicole, and Nora Terras (Fargo).  Extended family include Jeanne and Jerry Schnaible (cousin; Bismarck), Maxine and Terry Follman (sister/brother-in-law; Leeds, ND), along with several nieces and nephews. The family would like to express sincere gratitude for the loving care Holly received throughout her cancer journey.  Lastly, thank you to her family and friends for your continuous phone calls, flowers, food, and visits during this difficult time.
