Ida D. Higgins, 80, of Ekalaka, MT passed away on Sunday, April 18, 2010, at the Billings Clinic in Billings, MT. In honoring her wishes, a private family interment will take place on Friday, April 23, 2010, in the Black Hills National Cemetery at Sturgis, SD. Pastor Wallace Fox of the Ekalaka Bible Church will officiate the committal service. Ida Dorothy (Young) Higgins was born April 7, 1930, in Plevna, MT to Edward and Elizabeth (Shopp) Hoffman. She attended school at both Cold Springs Country School and Plevna School. She married Harry M. Young on June 6 1947, in Baker, MT and remained there until after the birth of their daughter Linda Diane. The family moved to Morristown, SD in1948, and remained there until 1956, when they moved back to Baker. In 1959, Ida and Harry moved to Plevna. They lived there until Harry’s death in February of 1980. In August 8, 1981; Ida married Virgil Higgins. Virgil and Ida lived in Plevna until 1982. In 1982 they moved to Hettinger, ND and lived until Virgil retired from the Railroad in 1986. Throughout her life Ida was very active in church, and the Artex Company, where she gathered many honors for her work. Although Linda was her only biological child she was mother to three of Harry’s nephews, twins Larry and Harry McAndrews and their younger brother Ray, and also two stepchildren Loren Higgins and Denise Higgins Pierce. Ida had a collection of children in her life that loved her dearly and will miss her greatly. Through out her life, Ida provided daycare to many children. Ida loved to cook, sew, and was well known for her baking. She is survived by her husband, Virgil Higgins, Ekalaka, MT; one daughter Linda (Vic) Huether, Shadehill, SD; a stepdaughter, Denise (Dan) Pierce, Ekalaka, MT; a stepson, Loren Higgins, Helena, MT; her grandsons Zane (Kim) Huether, Gilbert AZ, Derek (CJ) Huether, New Market, MD, Dameon (Cara) Huether, Frederick MD; five step granddaughters Christina (Larry) Beach, Miles City, MT; Coree (Mike) Walker, Spearfish, SD; Jessica Lynch, Forest Grove, OR; Billie Sozanski, Washington, NJ; Mariah (Brandon) Hicks, Helena, MT; one step grandson Dane (Angie) Higgins, Billings, MT; two great-grandsons, Jacob Ashton Huether and Aleister George Huether; four step great-granddaughters Rachel and Rebecca Walker, Killian Lynch, Leah Higgins; and ten step great-grandsons Cody and Brandon Beach, Cole and Reese Higgins, Aidan and Declan Lynch, Ashton and Avery Sozanski, Kastyr and Korben Hicks ; a special niece, Sherry McAndrews, Ryegate, MT, and Sherry’s children Samantha, Matthew, and Jennifer, who were considered grandchildren ; her sisters Rose Christman, Bertha Ehret, Viola Kratival, and MaryAnn Borer; two brothers, Elmer (Eleanora) Hoffman and Clarence (Mary) Hoffman and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Harry, her parents, three infant brothers, her brother, Jacob Hoffman and sister, Freda Gunderson.
