She was a devoted wife and mother of five children. They lived on a farm and ranch NW of Glen Ullin until they moved to the Marian Manor in 2000. She was honored at her 100th birthday in March. Ranching was a big part of their life. They also raised pigs and did some grain farming. Ida fed a crew of hired help for many years. Always ?wide awake for opportunities?, Ed and Ida invested in the Bank of Glen Ullin in the early 1960?s. Together, they attended many banking classes and functions over the next 4 decades. They had ownership interests in Banks in Regent, McVille and the First State Bank in Goodrich, all in North Dakota. Ed and Ida were active in banking circles into their 90?s and still had 300 cows when Ed passed away. Over the years Ida was involved in the community and an active member of the First Congregational UCC since 1928. Ida was a charter member of the Glen Ullin Lioness Club, Haymarsh Homemakers for thirty years, Cowbells, and a graduate of the Dale Carnige Course and several American Institute of Banking Courses. In the 1970?s she became interested in oil painting. She enjoyed painting and created enough beautiful paintings so each child and grandchild has one of her paintings. She also enjoyed gardening and sewing and studying nutrition. Together, Ida and Ed had 5 children; Carol (John) Gutenkunst, Green Valley, AZ; Sandra (Rev. William) Kaina, Honolulu, HI; Paul (Julie) Richter, Rapid City, SD, John (Donna) Richter, Bismarck, ND and son Edwin James lost in a car accident in 1970.
