Ida was born March 8, 1916 in Dickinson, the daughter of John and Mary (Froehlich) Schwindt. She grew up and attended school through the sixth grade. As a young girl, she worked at various farms throughout the area to help her family. It was during this time that she met Joseph Schwindt. They were married on April 3, 1935 in Wibaux, MT. The couple made their home in Dickinson where they raised their family of six children. Over the years, Ida did cleaning at various homes and businesses. She walked everywhere she went – never getting a driver’s license. Ida enjoyed dancing, playing bingo, fishing, embroidering, socializing and being around people. She was a great cook, known for her “red soup”, donuts, and tipperary squares. Ida also did lots of canning and gardening. She will be remembered for her shy smile. Ida was a silver member of St. Anthony Club as well as a member of German Hungarian, American Legion and the VFW Auxilliary.
