Funeral Services for Irene Fjosne, 92, of Halliday, ND are 2:00 p. m. on Wednesday, April 7, 2004 at the Assembly of God Church, Halliday, ND with Pastor Nolan Harmon, officiating. Visitation is Tuesday, April 6, 2004 from 10:00 a. m. to 9:00 p. m. at Stevenson-Mischel-Olson Chapel continuing on Wednesday from 12:00 p. m. to the service at the Assembly of God Church, Halliday, ND. Irene passed away Saturday, April 3, 2004 at Med Center One, Bismarck, ND. Irene Fjosne was born August 29, 1911 to Alton and Mina (Martens) Fisher at her parent?s farmstead near Halliday. She attended Collins elementary and Halliday High School, graduating in 1930 at which time she attended Dickinson State Teachers College. She started teaching at rural schools and attended college every summer. She received her standard certificate in 1935. On June 20, 1939 Irene married Earl Fjosne at Spring Creek Lutheran Church in Halliday. The couple moved to Los Angeles for four years. Then, they returned to farm north of Halliday. Irene furthered her education and received her bachelor?s degree from Dickinson College. Irene returned to teaching in Dodge for a year and a half and then taught 3rd grade in Halliday. She retired from teaching after 29 years. Earl became ill and they were forced to quit farming. They then bought a home in Halliday in 1966. Earl painted and did carpenter work until he passed away October 22, 1973. Irene was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday school, attended Bible studies and was on the church board. She organized the Pioneer Home Maker?s club in 1945. She was a guide for Stone Croft Bible Studies for 22 years. Leading a 4-H club was another activity she enjoyed. Irene was a member of the Halliday Federated Women?s club, Senior Citizens, Civic Club, Dunn County Council on Aging and Retired Teachers Association. Irene was very proud of her six grandsons. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, reading, quilting and crocheting afghans. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and one grandson, Allen James. Irene is survived by two sons: Paul Fjosne of Boise, ID and Brian (Margot) Fjosne of West Fargo, ND, one daughter-in-law: Marilyn Fjosne of Riggins, ID, one brother, George (Cora) Fisher and one sister, Helen (Fred) Loeffelbein, both of Halliday, ND, six grandchildren: Burke, Peter, Jon, Christopher, Benjamin and Bjorn and special friends, Louis & Marie Steffen of Halliday.
