Mass of Christian Burial for Jack Fettig, 89, of Killdeer is 10:30 a. m. on Wednesday, April 7, 2004 St. Joseph?s Catholic Church, Killdeer with Father Jerry Ruelle, OSB , celebrating. Interment will follow in Killdeer Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 6, 2004 from 11:00 a. m. to 9:00 p. m. with Rosary at 7:00 p. m. at Stevenson-Mischel-Olson Chapel, Killdeer. Jack passed away Saturday, April 03, 2004 at his home in Killdeer. Jack was born on the Big Flat near the Marshall Community on August 13, 1914, the son of Jacob J. and Theresa (Rohrich) Fettig. He moved with his family at the age of three to the family ranch north of Killdeer. Jack attended schools in Killdeer. After his formal schooling he began his career, ranching which he did all of his life. Together with his brother Phil, they purchased the Richards ranch in the Lost Bridge area in the badlands. Jack and his brothers contested in area rodeos, stared and operated the Fettig Bros. Rodeo Contractors of Killdeer, North Dakota. In 1960, after the death of Phil, he purchased the business which is now known as the Fettig Rodeo Co. and operated it until the 70?s. Jack continued to raise bucking horses with the help of his brother, Ray and nephew, LeRoy until the time of his death. Fettig Rodeo Co. was well known for having great bucking horses as well as bulls. They have been providing stock since 1953 and provided stock for the first R. C. A. National Finals Rodeo in Dallas, TX in 1959 and continued throughout the 60?s. Some of the stock included the names of: Figure 4, Funeral Wagon, Red Pepper, Bear Den, Reservation Red and the bulls which included: Wrangler, Yellow Fever, Jamboree, Dark Angel and Big Shot to name a few. Jack was an inductee into the ND Rodeo Hall of Fame as one of the Fettig Bros. Rodeo Contractors. He also had a bucking horse named ?Figure Four? which was inducted into the ND Cowboy Hall of Fame. He was a charter member and served on the board of directors of the N. D. R. A. In 1974 he was awarded an Honorary Chapter Farmer from the Killdeer F. F. A. chapter. In 1996 Jack received the Roughrider Rodeo Rancher Award. He was a very strong supporter of the Killdeer High School Rodeo Club and the DSU Rodeo Club. He was a member of the P. R. C. A. , N. D. R. A, Killdeer Saddle Club, Roughrider Rodeo Association and the North Dakota Stockmen?s Association. Everything in Jack?s life revolved around his horses. He was able to live life for what he truly loved even if he had to go without. His horses were always at the center of what and who Jack was. Survivors include, a brother, Ray Fettig of Sidney, MT, numerous nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, Joe, Tony, Frank, Nick, Phil; two sisters, Margaret Mittlesteadt and Monica Hovden. Memorials may be given to the Killdeer Saddle Club of Killdeer or to a charity of your choice.
