James Coombes

Funeral services for James Coombes, 83, Killdeer will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, April 5, 2007, at Hilltop Home of Comfort, Killdeer, with Aanen Gjovik, officiating. Interment will be in Oakdale Cemetery, rural Killdeer. Visitation will be at Hilltop Home of Comfort, Killdeer on Thursday one hour prior to the service. James Coombes passed away Monday, April 2, 2007, at St. Joseph?s Hospital and Health Center, Dickinson. James “Jim” Coombes was born on October 26, 1923 in Killdeer, ND to Walter and Vernonie (Lehman) Coombes. He spent his entire life in Killdeer and entered Hill Top on Nov. 16, 1992, where he has resided since that time. Jim was a long time Killdeer City employee, retiring in 1980 after serving Killdeer for some 35 plus years. He is remembered for his dedication to his job, for his kindness and his gentle nature. Jim loved to put jig saw puzzles together, did word search puzzles, played solitaire and enjoyed taking pictures. He liked to walk inside and outside Hill Top, greeting everyone as they came in to work. When he was selected as Hill Top’s Resident of the Quarter, he said of himself, “I’ve lived a good life. There’s no bad to tell.” Jim was a good man! James is survived by: his extended family at Hilltop Home of Comfort. He was preceded in death by: his parents, Walter and Veronie Coombes and one sister, Nellie Strange, Seattle, Wash.
