James E. Gilliam, 66, Dickinson, died Sunday, June 29, 2003, at St. Joseph?s Hospital and Health Center, Dickinson. Funeral services will be 1 p. m. Tuesday, July 1, 2003, at Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson with Rev. Jon Cooke officiating. The Dickinson Veterans Drill Team will provide Military Rites. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 1 from 9 a. m. to 1 p. m. James Edward Gilliam was born October 4, 1936, in Dorena, MO, to James and Alta Mae (Bonner) Gilliam. He left Missouri in 1940. He lived in Parker, Arizona until 1943, when he moved to Blythe Calif. James enlisted in the Navy in 1956, and was honorably discharged in 1962. He worked as a pipe layer, truck driver and warehouse manager after his time in the service. In February 1979, James married Geraldine Paweski. Together they resided in southern California until 1992, when they moved to Council, Idaho. After his wife passed away in 1996, James decided to move to North Dakota to be closer to his children. He is survived by: his children, Rose (Jimmy) Waymire, Chicago, Ill. , Angela (Darel) Simpson, Council Id. , Jeffery (Nina) Bednarz, Hinkley, Calif. , Antoinette Freeman, Minot, Donald (Tammy) Earl, Council, Id. , Regina Earl, Carthage, NY and Tammy (Kenneth) Tormaschy, Dickinson, ND; 17 grandchildren and many great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by: his wife, Geraldine; son, Bruce Bednarz; his parents and two brothers.
