A Memorial Service for James Gillum, 80, of Glen Ullin, will be 1:00 p. m. CDT, Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at Spangelo-Stevenson Funeral Home, Glen Ullin with Betty “Red Earth Woman” Hyatt officiating. Visitation for James will be from 11:00 a. m. to 1:00 p. m. CDT, Wednesday at the funeral home. A Drumming Ceremony will take place Monday evening at the family home. James passed away Thursday, September 8, 2016 at St. Alexius Health – Bismarck. James Wayne “Man No Horses” Gillum was born April 4, 1936 to T. D. and Irene (Laster) Gillum in Oil Trough, AR. He graduated from Oil Trough High School and went on to study engineering at Western Michigan University. It was there he met Nancy Putman. The couple was married on May 3, 1958 at Lakota, MI. To this union five children were born; Elizabeth, Bruce, Margaret, Patricia and Reatha. James began working for Fisher Body General Motors, retiring after 31 years of service. James and Nancy decided to move out west to Glen Ullin with their daughter and have made it their home ever since. James was always willing to help anyone in need, no matter who or what they were. He could build or fix anything. James is survived by his wife Nancy (Putman) Gillum of Glen Ullin; children, Elizabeth Gillum of Glen Ullin, Bruce (Sara) Gillum of MI, Margaret (Tom) Watson of MI, Patricia Gillum of MI, Reatha Van Eck of MI; brother, Tad (Frances) Gillum of AZ; sister, Beverly Wellington of SC; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, T. D. and Irene (Laster); brothers; George and Bobby Gillum; sister, Linda Concord; and son-in-law, John Van Eck.
