A Funeral Mass for James Gulka, 94, of Dickinson, will be 12:00 p. m. , Friday, May 24, 2013 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church with Msgr. Patrick Schumacher celebrating. Burial will follow in the Dickinson Mausoleum. Visitation for James will be 1:00 p. m. to 7:00 p. m. , Thursday, May 23rd at Stevenson Funeral Home in Dickinson with a Rosary and Vigil service being held at 6:00 p. m. James passed away Sunday, May 19, 2013 at his home. James Gulka was born in 1919, the son of Samuel and Lena Gulka. He grew up in the New Hradec area, attending country school. On October 1, 1940, James was united in marriage to Lillian Gladys Barta. James served in World War II, in the United States Army as a Tech IV in the Pacific Theater. To this union, JoAnn, James, Linda, Terry, Debra and Sue were born. The couple lived in New Hradec for 34 years where they operated the New Hradec Post Office and Gulka’s Garage, a gas station /auto repair shop together. Prior to moving to Dickinson in 1976, along with their sons, they started Four Seasons Sports. On October 1st, 2000, James and Lillian celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. James enjoyed time spent with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In his pastime, he enjoyed restoring old vehicles. James was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Catholic Workman, VFW, Eagles, and American Legion. James is survived by his children, James A. (Janice) Gulka of Tucson, AZ, Terry (Donna) Gulka of Dickinson, Debra Gulka Anderson of Dickinson and Sue Gulka Hecker of Dickinson; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, sister, Anna Basaraba; brother, Steven Gulka; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian; daughters, JoAnn (Carmel) Bonomo of Hettinger and Linda Gulka Gould of Las Vegas, NV; parents, Samuel and Lena; siblings John, Nick, and Betty Ficek.
