Funeral Service for James L. Schmidt, 57 of Gladstone, ND will be 1:00 p. m. , Wednesday, March 15, 2006 at Stevenson-Mischel-Olson Chapel in Dickinson, ND with Father Boniface Muggli, OSB, celebrating. Burial will be at a later date in the St. Mary?s Cemetery in Richardton, ND. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 14, 2006 from 2:00 p. m. to 9:00 p. m. at Stevenson-Mischel-Olson Chapel. Rosary will be Wednesday, at 12:00 p. m. prior to the service. James passed away Saturday, March 11, 2006 at St. Benedict?s Health Care Center after a year-long battle with cancer. James was born October 18, 1948 at Mott, ND, the son of Mike and Margaret (Boespflug) Schmidt. He grew up near the St. Placidus Church area and attended the Steiner Township Country School near Mott and later the Mott Lincoln High School. James was married to Marjorie Deitz at St. Michael?s Catholic Church in Sentinel Butte, ND on April 27, 1970. He worked on the family farm until 1979 when they moved into Dickinson where James began his career in building maintenance, working for the city of Dickinson. In 1986 they moved to Gillette, WY where he worked for the Campbell County School District. A short time later, the family moved to Bismarck, ND where James was employed by the Trinity Lutheran Church. After the death of his wife, he moved back to Dickinson where he worked on various jobs and was later employed by Kappel Tree Service. Due to ill health, he retired and continued to make the Dickinson area his home. He enjoyed fishing, being outdoors, music, and working on his vehicles with his children. His love and heart was always for being back out on the farm and the times he spent there. Survivors include: three sons: Timothy (special friend, Mimi), Gladstone, ND, Brandon (Rayetta), Miles City, MT and Jason of Gwinner, ND; a daughter, April (Carlin) Sweet of Fargo, ND; his father, Mike Schmidt, Dickinson, ND; two brothers: Donald (Joan) Schmidt, St. Louis, MO and Melvern (Linda) Schmidt, Richardton, ND; three grandchildren: Nolan Schmidt, Asia & Genesis Sweet and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie; his mother, Margaret; a brother, Virgil, a sister, Vernice Frank and a granddaughter, Trinity Sweet.
