Jan passed away on Saturday, July 10, 2010, at his home in New England. Jan was born March 11, 1954, to Vernon and Regina ?Reggie? (Gartner) Gentz in Dickinson, ND. He attended St. Mary?s Elementary in New England before graduating from New England High School. Jan wore many hats in his 56 years. He was a beekeeper, taxi driver, security guard and a landscape architect. He worked alongside his brother, Guy, operating a bar in Williston for many years. After moving to California, he especially enjoyed working for NBC Studios as a courier taking interview transcripts to the homes of celebrities. Most recently, he was working for Fitterer Oil and delivering mail on his dad?s former rural mail route. Lasting memories for Jan have been attending Super Bowl XXXVIII with Guy, sleeping in a tepee at Michael Jackson?s Neverland Ranch, and living on his house boat in Marina Del Ray. He loved spending time at the Golden West visiting with people and was not averse to engaging in a lively discussion on any range of topics. He was content to be back home in New England enjoying our small town and all it had to offer, being with family and friends at holiday gatherings and sporting events, being able to see the stars at night, attending ?Burgers In The Park,? and life in general at a slower pace. He enjoyed being able to garden and especially loved making his ?World Famous Pickles? for all to share. Jan was a simple man with little need for material possessions. Jan held a special place in his heart for his great niece, Piper, trying to tickle and get her to laugh every chance he could. His family is forever grateful to have had him back in their lives and most grateful to him for being a constant guardian and helper to their mother. Jan is survived by his mother, Reggie, New England, ND; two brothers, Guy Gentz, Sturgis, SD, and Karl Gentz, Denver, CO; two sisters, Toni (Gary) Jung, New England, ND, and Michelle Osmon, Denver, CO; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Vernon; a brother, Gregg Gentz; a sister, Babs Elizabeth Gentz; and paternal and maternal grandparents.
