Funeral services for Janice Wetzel 68, of New Salem will be 10:00 a. m. CDT, Friday, June 13, 2014 at Sacred Heart Church, Glen Ullin, ND. Burial will be in the Glen Ullin Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 – 7 p. m. CDT, Thursday at the Spangelo-Stevenson Funeral Home in Glen Ullin, ND and continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Janice passed away on Monday, June 9, 2014 at the Elm Crest Manor in New Salem. ND. Janice Eileen Heinle was born May 24, 1946 at Richardton, ND the daughter of Edward and Susan Ida (Fischer) Heinle. Her parents farmed southeast of Hebron until she started the 1st grade at Hebron Public School. She enjoyed singing in the choir and she and her sister, Carol sang duets in church. Janice was confirmed at the Congregational Church by Rev. Opp. Janice graduated in 1964 as an honor student and went to work at Lapps Jack & Jill after graduation. Shortly thereafter, she moved to Bismarck where she worked at the Bismarck Hospital. Janice was united in marriage to Kenneth Wetzel of rural Glen Ullin on March 4, 1967. Together they moved to the farm where they raised their daughter, Laura Kay. In 1972, they purchased the farm from his parents, Rudolph and Lydia (Huber) Wetzel. Janice and Kenneth farmed, rented land and ran a dairy for 43 years, milking 60 to 70 cows. Janice enjoyed bowling and bowled on a league for over 20 years in Glen Ullin. She was a member of the Jaycettes later called Women of Today for 22 years where she served a term as President. Janice was known for the best caramel rolls, kuchen, apple strudel and buns. Janice was an avid collector of Barbie Dolls and was a lifelong Elvis Presley fan. Left to mourn her death are her husband, Kenneth Wetzel; daughter, Laura (Rik) Lorenz; brother, Clyde (Gayla) Heinle; sister, Linda (LeRoy) Preisinger; brother-in-law, Harold Gomke; sister-in-law, Joyce Hoffer; nieces, Cadee & Darbee Heinle, and Stephanie (Mark) Swenson; nephews, Jeff, Mike and Joey Kunkel, and Stacy (Nicole) Gomke; uncle and aunt, Roy and Florence (Opp) Heinle; and numerous great-nieces and great nephews. She was preceded by her parents, Edward and Susan (Fischer) Heinle; sister, Carol Gomke; father and mother-in-law, Rudolph and Lydia (Huber) Wetzel; step mother-in-law, Grace Wetzel; grandparents, Jacob & Christina (Sayler) Heinle; adopted grandparents, Peter and Lydia (Redmann) Scheck; and uncles and aunts, Edward and Margaret (Permann) Scheck and Albert; Delmer Scheck, Martha (Heinle)Ulmer, Rueben Heinle, Emmanuel and Ida (Schneider) Heinle, and Carl and Ruth (Heinle) Huber.
