Memorial Service for Jeremy D. Rost, 46, of Baker, will be 7:00 pm Thursday, September 19, 2024 at Stevenson Funeral Home, Baker with Pastor Jim Biswell officiating. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service.
Jeremy took his own life on Monday, September 16, 2024.
Jeremy was born on April 8, 1978 in Bowman, ND, the only son of Casey and Jean (Beach) Rost. Growing up in Baker, we would like to think that his childhood was filled with many good memories. He loved staying at his grandparent’s farm in Marmarth with his sisters and his special cousin, Bill. They were always on an adventure, roaming through the rugged turf of the badlands. One of his fondest memories was traveling the Little Missouri River with his grandpa. Not really sure how far they actually made it, but their goal was to get to Medora. Jer’s work ethic started at a young age too. He was never afraid of hard or dirty work and was always willing to lend a helping hand.
Jer attended (not willingly at times) the Baker School District. He is probably remembered by many for being ornery, stubborn and untactfully honest, but if you were able to break into the other side of Jer, you were one of the lucky ones that knew how sweet, thoughtful and loyal he could be. He would do anything for a friend, even if it wasn’t a great idea. Jeremy struggled his way through high school but was able to make honor roll his senior year; a milestone that he was proud of, even though he would joke that the majority of his classes that year were home economics. He graduated from Baker High School in 1996. This was a milestone that his parents should reward themselves for. Raising him was not easy, and graduating from high school is a reward that all parents with the same struggle should pat themselves on the back for.
After high school, Jeremy made a career out of working in the oilfield. He enjoyed the many friendships he made and took great pride in his work. In 2000, he met and married Tina Burczyk. During their 20 years of marriage, they were blessed with three children; William, Zander, and Katelynn. He worked hard to provide for his family and gave them the best life he could. He was super supportive and proud of their accomplishments. In 2009, the loss of Katelynn at infancy was devastating and a heartache that Jer would never be able to heal from. After the death of his son, Will in 2021, his alcohol dependency continued to destroy his family. He knew, and we knew, that he was going to leave this world when the pain got to be too much. So we all did the best we could on trying to just embrace the good moments. Over the last few years, he enjoyed making memories with his girlfriend, Amanda, checking in on friends and reminding his family how much he loved them. Jeremy often said “don’t waste your blessings on me” but that didn’t stop us from praying for him. We all hope he is at peace. For those that love Jeremy, we know that alcohol will not define him. His big heart and love that he had for his family is what we will remember him for.
Jeremy leaves behind his son, Zander, parents, Casey and Jean Rost, special friend, Amanda DeGrand, all of Baker; sisters, Angie (Scott) Rabbitt of Dickinson, ND and Trisha (Willie) Schweiger of Beaver Dam, WI; seven special nieces and nephews; grandmother, Nellie Rost of Marmarth, ND; many aunts and uncles; cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents; Tubby Rost, and Fay and Joan Beach; his daughter, Katelynn; and his son, William.
