Funeral service for Jerry Bender, 73, Dickinson formerly of Killdeer, ND will be 2 p. m. , Thursday, June 5, 2008, at Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson, ND. Military Honors will be provided by the Dickinson Veterans Drill Team. Interment will be 2 p. m. (CT) Friday, June 6, 2008, at the North Dakota Veteran?s Cemetery, Mandan, ND. Visitation will be 11 a. m. to 9 p. m. , Wednesday, June 4, 2008, at Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson. Jerry passed away Thursday, May 29, 2008, at St. Joseph?s Hospital and Health Center, Dickinson, ND. Jerry Bender was born on July 13, 1934, in New England, ND to John and Ann (Ehlis) Bender. He attended school in Dickinson and graduated from Dickinson State College, in 1958. In 1954, he married Gladys Dvorak, in Bainbridge, Maryland. Jerry served in the U. S. Navy aboard the USS Alderbaran during the Korean Conflict and obtained the rank of PN 3. He was Honorably Discharged on July 12, 1955. Jerry and Gladys lived in Bismarck and Killdeer until 1965 while Jerry taught school. Later on, he became the office manager at the ASCS office in Killdeer until his retirement. Jerry served on the Killdeer School Board, Killdeer Fire Department and the American Legion. Jerry also was a member of the Elk?s Lodge #1137 and German-Hungarian Club. He loved to fish, hunt and golf in his spare time. Jerry is survived by: his children, Patricia (Jeff) Standal, Colbert, Wash. and Rhonda (Don) Anderson, Dickinson; four grandchildren, Colton Bellamy, Spokane, Wash. , Lauren (Yaniv) Bellamy-Hergass, Los Angles, Calif. , Brock Anderson, Minneapolis, Minn. and Nikki Anderson, Dickinson, ND; one great grandchild, Bella Anderson. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Larry.
