Jerry Briski, 86, Grand Forks, ND,formerly of Inglewood, CA passed away surrounded by family on Tuesday, October 24, 2006 at the Hillsboro Medical Center, Hillsboro, ND. Funeral services are 10 a. m. , Wednesday, November 1, 2006 at Price-Murphy Funeral Home, Dickinson, with Chaplain James Oakland officiating. Interment will be in New England Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a. m. to 7 p. m. , Tuesday, October 31, 2006 at Price-Murphy Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7 p. m. Visitation will continue Wednesday one hour prior to the service. Jerry was born September 10, 1920 in Rainy Butte Township, Slope County, near New England, ND, the son of Joseph and Mary (Plese) Briski. He was raised and educated in Slope County, graduated from State Normal School in Dickinson, ND and is thus an alumni of Dickinson State University. In early 1941 as the war drums for World War II began to sound, he and his brother answered the call for aircraft workers in southern California. He attended the Western Aircraft School in Bismarck, ND where he and his brother were quickly recognized as qualified farm-trained mechanics. They went to Los Angeles, California where Jerry obtained a job with the Douglas Aircraft Co. For a short time he owned and operated a bar near Hollywood, CA. He retired from McDonnell Douglas and lived in Inglewood, CA before moving to Tacoma, WA to live with another brother and his wife. He spent a short time in Boise, ID before moving to Grand Forks, ND to be near family. Jerry?s biggest enjoyment was attending the horse races. His favorite horse-park was Hollywood Park in Inglewood, CA where he met and befriended several Hollywood stars and starlets. In later years he enjoyed the races at Emerald Downs in Tacoma, WA and the North Dakota Horsepark in Fargo, ND. He also enjoyed bowling and was a great pool player. He was active in the International Union of United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers of America (UAW). He was very proud of and received an award (Hall of Fame Voter) for his continuous voting record in state and federal elections (60 years). He was a kind and generous friend, uncle, and brother. Survivors include, brothers, Lawrence (Alice) Briske, Tacoma, WA and Edward (Ruth) Briske, New England, ND; sister Elsie (Rowland) Seal, Yakima, WA; several nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Joe, John, Frank, Steve, Harry and Matthew; sisters, Mary and Annie and one grand nephew.
