Jerry Roberts

A funeral service for Jerry Roberts, 78, of Dickinson, ND, will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at Belfield Lutheran Church with Pastor Roger Dieterle officiating.  Burial will take place at Belfield Lutheran Cemetery.


Visitation for Jerry will be from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, July 17 at Stevenson Funeral Home with a prayer service taking place at 7:00 p.m.


Jerry passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at Sanford Health in Bismarck.


Jerry Roberts was born on May 2, 1939 in Golden Valley County, ND, the son of Earl and Alma (Will) Roberts.  He grew up on the family ranch near Sentinel Butte, attended grade school and graduated from Sentinel Butte High School.  After school, he ranched and farmed in Sentinel Butte and various towns around North Dakota.   It was during this time that he met Donna Jean Pierce.  On June 29, 1958, Jerry and Donna were united in marriage in Montana.  To this union, four children were born: Jim, Dawn, Debra and Brenda.  During Jerry’s working career, he spent time working as a seismographer in Plentywood, MT before moving to Arkansas.  He then moved to Glendive, MT to work as a mechanic before returning to Plentywood to work as a rancher and mechanic.   Jerry moved to Belfield, ND where he worked for Koch, R&R Hot Oil Service, and established JR Diesel Service before he retired and moved to Dickinson.


Jerry enjoyed spending time outdoors camping & fishing, woodworking, playing Bingo, and watching the Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Twins play.  He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.


Jerry is survived by his daughters, Debra (Bryant) Walter of Bismarck, ND, and Brenda (Brian) Olson of Springfield, IL; daughter-in-law, Kelly (Jeff) Roberts-Goetz; grandchildren, Cory (Kellsey Blackburn) Roberts, Justin (Nicki) Roberts, Jaelyn (Cody) Chathams, Melissa (Matthew Wahl) Roberts, Jessica (Tom) Carter, Darin (Kendra) Olson, Shawn Roberts, Brandon (CJ Evanson) Walter, Mikel (Blair) Olson, and Adam Olson; great-grandchildren, Hunter Upham, Aubrey Roberts, Hayden Chathams, Easton Kirsch, Liam Chathams, Trevor Roberts, Breyer Chathams, and Owen Olson; sister, Patsy (Bobby) Renz; sisters-in-law, Doris Roberts, and Pauline Roberts; brothers-in-law, Harlan (Betty) Pierce, Bob Fitzgerald; and special friend, Leona Nicklous.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Alma Roberts; wife, Donna Roberts; son, Jim Roberts; daughter Dawn Roberts; brothers, Tom and Dick Roberts; sisters, Verna Beard and Donna Roberts; brothers-in-law, Keith Beard, Kermit (Barb) Goette; and, sister-in-law, Betty Fitzgerald.
