Smokey passed away peacefully in Dickinson, surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, July 8th, at the age of 76.

Jester Beck was born to Fred and Florence (Olson) Beck on the family ranch near the Killdeer Mountains on April 6, 1936. He was given the name”Smokey” by his Dad at a young age and was known as Smokey ever since. Smokey worked at different jobs until his retirement. He ranched at the Beck ranch, owned and operated the Bucking Horse Bar now known as the Buckskin Bar, worked on the oil rigs and for many years worked for the Dunn County Highway Department until his retirement about 8 years ago. Smokey also cared for his Mother for many years until she passed away. The real love of his life, were his two children, Gordon of Killdeer and Carrie of Dickinson. Smokey and Carrie enjoyed the Killdeer Cowboy basketball and football games and they never missed a game. They were honored members of the Killdeer Cowboys football games and Smokey and Carrie were presented with a jacket for never missing a game. Smokey was very proud of Carrie’s accomplishments with Special Olympics. Smokey also loved to take Gordon and Carrie hunting and fishing whenever possible. Smokey was a true and kind friend to all he knew. He will be greatly missed.

Smokey is survived by his son, Gordon Beck of Killdeer; his daughter, Carrie Connie Beck of Dickinson and Carrie’s 2nd Mom and Dad, Lyle (Joyce) Scott of Dickinson; one sister, Bessie (George) Kulish of Mandan, ND; and half sister, Irma (Gordon) Stein of Alexandria, MN.
