Funeral Mass for Joseph Edward Schillo, 61 of Killdeer will be 10:00 a. m. Thursday, April 21, 2005 at St. Joseph?s Catholic Church in Killdeer with Father David Richter Celebrating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary?s Cemetery in Golva with Military Graveside Rites by the Beach American Legion Post #5. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 20, 2005 from 12:00 p. m. to 8:00 p. m. with a Rosary and Vigil Service at 7:00 p. m. at Stevenson-Mischel-Olson Chapel in Killdeer. Visitation will continue one hour prior to service at St. Joseph?s Catholic Church. A visitation will be held from 3:00 p. m. to 3:30 p. m. at the St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Golva prior to the graveside service at the St. Mary?s Cemetery. Joe passed away Monday, April 18, 2005 at the Veterans Medical Center in Fargo after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born February 27, 1944 at Beach, ND, the son of Martin and Marcella (Fischer) Schillo. He grew up and attended schools in Golva, graduating in 1962. He attended Rocky Mountain College in Billings for two years before enlisting in the Marine Corps on February 25, 1966. He served in Vietnam until January 12, 1968. During his time of service, Joe was awarded the Purple Heart. He returned to the Golva area where he worked in the oilfields as a tool pusher for Noble Drilling until the early 1980?s. On February 4, 1983 he was married to Joann Wehrman at Beach. They made their home in Killdeer. Joe worked for various ranchers including Terrall Bang, Gene Buehner, Oscar Stohler, and Terry Hammel. Joe enjoyed farming and ranching and had a love for good horses all of his life. He bought, sold, trained, showed and raced horses for several years. Joe loved life, especially being outdoors, either riding or being on a tractor. Survivors include his wife, Joann of Killdeer; a daughter, Sara (Todd) Erickson of Northwood, ND; two step-daughters: Eugenia Bordeaux of Mandan, ND and Kari (Stacy) Tweet of Wilton, ND; six brothers: Bernie (Melissa) Schillo, Tom (Verdette) Schillo, John Schillo and special friend, Dee, Steve Schillo, Chuck (Sherry) Schillo and Jim (Mary Ann) Schillo all of Golva; four sisters: Ann (John) Mehl of Fergus Falls, MN, Teresa (Barney) Bell of Reno, NV, Margie MacLennan of Winterpark, FL and Connie (Dave) Finnemann of Rapid City, SD; two grandchildren; four step-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Bob Schillo and a sister, Clara Schillo. A Memorial in Memory of Joe has been established for the Home on the Range Horse Therapy Program and can be mailed to Home on the Range, HC 1, Box 41, Sentinel Butte, ND 58654.
