Joel went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 6, 2017, at his home in Bismarck.

Joel was born March 19, 1949 to Henry P and Eleanor (Schlatter) Wetzel in Hebron, ND.

Joel entered the US Army on April 22, 1967 where he served two terms in Vietnam, receiving the Vietnam Silver Star Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and a Purple Heart Medal. His terms were June 11, 1967 to June 8, 1968 and August 27, 1969 to March 30, 1970. He was honorably discharged from the military service on April 28, 1972. Joel was very proud that he served his country.

Upon the conclusion of his military service, Joel moved to Bakersfield, California where he worked at various oilfield positions. Joel lived in various states and locations until moving back to North Dakota in 2003. He was living in Bismarck at the time of his death.

Joel loved riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle as much as he could. As long as there wasn’t any ice on the highways, you would find him riding his bike. He also enjoyed fishing, restoring vehicles, and preaching the word of the Lord. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his sister, Jenny (Ron) Zeller, Dickinson, ND; sister-in-law, Susan Wetzel, Hazen, ND; nieces, Kim (Joe) Oxner, Billings, MT, Brenda (Brian) Baer, Glendive, MT, Nicole (Winton) Roberts, Dickinson, ND, and Laura (Mark) Erdman, Dickinson, ND; nephews, Jimmy (Ericka) Wetzel, Wahpeton, ND, Jesse Zeller, Dickinson, ND, and Ryan (Jamie) Zeller, Dickinson, ND.
