John Custer

A funeral service for John P. Custer, 58, of Baker, Montana will be 10:00 a. m. , Thursday, May 7, 2015 at American Lutheran Church, Baker, with Pastors Bruce and Reba Kolasch officiating. Burial will follow in Bonnievale Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 6:00 p. m. to 8:00 p. m. , Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at Stevenson Funeral Home. John passed away Sunday, May 3, 2015 at his home in Baker with his family by his side. John Patrick Custer was born October 23, 1956 in Dickinson, ND, the son of Michael and Anna (Kostelecky) Custer. He grew up in the Belfield area and graduated from Mandan High School in 1976. After graduation, John moved to the Baker area to work with his brother in the oilfield. It was there that he met Claire Goerndt. On October 23, 1981, John and Claire were united in marriage in Baker. To this union two children were born: Jason and Kristen. The couple have made Baker their home ever since. John enjoyed driving old pickups and cars, watching car racing, bowling, camping, fishing, and any sports that involved the kids. His grandchildren meant the world to him and he loved spending time with them. John could often be found taking them camping and fishing. He also enjoyed spending time with the day care kids. John is survived by his wife of 33 years, Claire of Baker; son, Jason (Holly) of Baker; daughter, Kristen (Jim) of Baker; grandchildren, Suzie, Taylor, Hawken, Kimber, Keely, Colt, Adasa, and Jemma; siblings, Yvonne (Eddie), Yvette (Dale), Collette (Dick), Paulette (Orville), Renee (Harvey), Elaine, Tom (Janice), Simone (Kirby), Madonna, Al, and Therese (Jerry) father & mother-in-law, Fritz and Ruby Goerndt; brothers-in-law, Kelly (Jaime) Goerndt, Wade (Tami) Goerndt, Doug (Tracey) Goerndt, and Kelly Lamm; and numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his mother, Anna Custer; a very special grandson, Ruger Custer; and a sister, Michelle Lamm.
