John Erhart, 88, of Bismarck, and formerly of Glen Ullin, died Monday, February 4, 2008, following a courageous battle with cancer at the St. Benedict Health Care Center in Dickinson surrounded by his family, and his spiritual and physical caregivers. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10: 00 a. m. Central Time on Friday, February 8, 2008, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glen Ullin. Visitation will begin on Thursday, at the church after 4:00 PM with vigil services at 7:00 PM. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Glen Ullin. John was born in Glen Ullin on February 2, 1920, the son of Mathias and Johanna (Olheiser) Erhart. He was raised on the family farm and educated in a rural school. On June 8, 1943, he married Rose Veitenheimer at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glen Ullin. Together they farmed south of Glen Ullin. In 1959, they moved their family into Glen Ullin but continued to farm until they retired in 1980. John was a long-time member of the St. Joseph Men?s Society. John worked for Gerving Construction for a while following retirement. In 1994, they moved to the Crescent West in Bismarck where they were welcomed, made many new friendships, and participated in many social activities. John prided himself by hard work as he toiled with the land, raised cattle, and other farm work. In retirement he enjoyed bowling, fishing, rodeo, watching wrestling on TV, listening to oldtime music, but he especially enjoyed the time spent with his family. Grateful for having shared in his life are his three daughters, Sharon and Arnold Dockter of Bismarck, Linda Sackman of Bismarck, Cynthia and Frank Slag of Dickinson; seven grandchildren, Bryan Dockter, Brenda and Tim Kellar, Becky and Brad Stork, Lisa and Kelly Engstrom, Loren and Bridget Gerhardt, Darrell and Marcia Slag and Donovan and Mandy Slag; five great-grandchildren, Ashley and Alicia Engstrom, Sydney and Lakyn Stork, and Ethan Slag, and his special friend Barbara Bosch. John is also survived by his sisters: Anna Schantz and Tillie Hoerner, both of Glen Ullin; and Angeline Jablonsky, Dickinson, ND, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Rose on January 4, 2004, his brothers, Christ and Anton, and his sisters, Josephine Frank and Pauline Schaff.
