John Filibeck

Funeral Mass for John M. Filibeck, 55, of Glen Ullin, ND, will be 10:30 a. m. CDT, Monday, August 2, 2010, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glen Ullin with Father Arul Joseph celebrating. Interment will follow at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Mandan, ND. Visitation will be from 5:00 p. m. to 8:00 p. m. CDT, Sunday, August 1, 2010, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with a Rosary and Vigil Service at 7:00 p. m. CDT. John passed away Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at his home on the family farm in rural Glen Ullin. John M. Filibeck was born September 2, 1954 to John J. Jr. and Agnes (Gietzen) Filibeck in Richardton, North Dakota. He grew up in Glen Ullin attending Sacred Heart Grade School and later graduating from Glen Ullin High School in 1972. After high school, John entered the U. S. Army where he was stationed at Fort Richardson and Fort Greely in Alaska. While there, he served on the Arctic Military Mountaineering Team. He also perused a degree in Geology from the University of Alaska Anchorage. He later transferred back to North Dakota due to his mother?s failing health and finished his military service in Nekoma, North Dakota. He met Janet Franklund while the two were working construction in Bismarck. They later married on August 27, 1983 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Bismarck. After marriage the couple moved back to Glen Ullin where they worked for the Henry J. Kaiser Company during the construction of the Dakota Gasification Plant. John later took a job at the Bureau of Reclamation at Heart Butte Dam where he was employed for the past 24 years. John was a member of the Glen Ullin Knights of Columbus, the Boy Scouts of America, where he served as the leader for Troop 41. He was also a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. John enjoyed hunting and shooting. His greatest love was fishing. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends while out on the boat or at the cabin. John is survived by his wife, Janet, Glen Ullin, ND; daughter, Joni Marie, Glen Ullin, ND; son, John Victor, Glen Ullin, ND and sisters, Janice Filibeck, Glen Ullin, ND, Joyce (Jim) Ulmer, Bismarck, ND, Jane (Dennis) Schiele, Bismarck, ND, Mary Ann Filibeck, Lincoln, ND and Donna (Ron) Emter, Bismarck, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents.
