Funeral services for John M. Guenther, Dunn Center will be 9 a. m. , Thursday, May 10, 2007, at Normanna Lutheran Church, Dunn Center, with Rev. Aanen Gjovik, officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the by the Ezra Barrows Post # 46 of Killdeer. Interment will be 2 p. m. (CDT) Thursday, May 10, 2007, at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND. Visitation will be 1 p. m. to 9 p. m. , Wednesday, May 9, 2007, at Stevenson Funeral Home, Killdeer. Visitation will continue Thursday at the church one hour prior to the service. John M. Guenther, 59, Dunn Center, passed away at his home on Saturday, May 5, 2007. John Guenther was born May 14, 1947, in Dickinson to Milton and Ella (Mittelstedt) Guenther. He was raised in Dunn County and graduated from Killdeer High School in 1965. John then attended NDSU and received his Bachelor?s Degree in 1973. He proudly served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam era. John was very proud of this service and continued to serve with the American Legion from the time of his discharge until the present. He was honored with numerous awards and medals for his duty and service. On May 8, 1971, he married Peggy Regeth in Killdeer, ND. Following their marriage John and Peggy resided at NDSU while John finished his degree. Together they had a son and a daughter, whom John loved very much. After his graduation, they returned to Dunn County and John farmed with his father. He enjoyed country life, especially caring for his horses and was proud to work the Guenther Farm and keep it in the family. John was passionate about politics, and was involved with several political organizations. He also valued social justice and fought for that cause. He is survived by his mother, Ella, Dunn Center; two children, Nathan Guenther, Bismarck, ND and Jessica (Andrew) Guenther-Montgomery, North Ogden, UT; two sisters, Marilyn Schoenberg, Hebron, ND and Jean Guenther, Dickinson, ND; one granddaughter, Darian Guenther; three nephews and several great nephews and a great niece. He is also survived by his special friend and long time partner, Edith Norton, Dickinson, ND, whom he loved very much and who held a special place in his heart. He was preceded in death by his father, Milton Guenther and several uncles and aunts.
