John Kerr

John Victor Kerr, age 58, of the Tie Creek Ekalaka area, passed away on Thursday, December 5, 2002 at his home after a sudden heart attack. John was born on February 25, 1944 in Spearfish, South Dakota, the son of George and Susan (Harding) Kerr. He was raised in the Sheep Mountain area in Carter County where he attended country schools. He then attended Ekalaka High School. John and Marion Olstad were united in marriage on September 12, 1963 in Rapid City, South Dakota. Following their marriage they worked on various ranches in the northwestern North Dakota and southeastern Montana areas before returning to the family homestead in the Sheep Mountain area in 1972. In 1993, they purchased the Lende Ranch in the Tie Creek area and have remained there ever since. John was very active in the Carter County area, serving on the A. S. C. Committee for several years, the Carter County High School Board, chairman of the Carter County Weed Board, chairman of the Action for Eastern Montana, and has served as a Carter County Commissioner since 1995 where he was instrumental in the completion of the highway 323 project. John was also a member of the Carter County Chamber of Commerce, the Masonic Lodge, the Al Bedo Shrine, the Sorrel Horse Patrol, and was a 4-H leader for several years. John enjoyed hunting and fishing, camping and boating, cooking, and watching football, especially the Broncos and Rams, and baseball. He loved being around his family and was very proud of his kids and grandkids. John is survived by his wife, Marion of the family home, his son, Justin Kerr and his wife Shauna of Camp Crook, MT, his daughter, Shelly Grimes of Ekalaka, MT, two grandchildren; Richard and Eva Marie Grimes of Ekalaka, a brother, Herb Kerr and his wife Linda of Ekalaka, two sisters; Alice Crabtree of Glenwood Springs, CO, and Mary and her husband Everett Brewer of the Tie Creek area, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers; Willard and Russell Cridland. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 8, 2002 at the Stevenson Funeral Home in Ekalaka from 1:00 P. M. to 6:00 P. M. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 9, 2002 at 2:00 P. M. at the Carter County High School Gymnasium in Ekalaka. Interment will follow in the family lot in the Beaverlodge Cemetery in Ekalaka. Stevenson Funeral Home of Ekalaka is in charge of the arrangements. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Dahl Memorial Health Care Facility in Ekalaka or to the charity of one?s choice.
