John Nichols

Funeral Service for John Nichols, 61, of Baker, MT will be at 11:00 a. m. Monday, December 3, 2007 at American Lutheran Church in Baker with Pastors Bruce & Reba Kolasch officiating. Interment will follow in Bonnievale Cemetery at Baker with Military rites by the American Legion, Fallon Post #35 of Baker. John Odin Nichols was born on March 10, 1946 the son of Harvey and Ruth (Myhre) Nichols in Baker, Montana. He grew up and attended country school later graduating from Baker High School in 1964. He attended Montana State University for two years before enlisting with US Marines. After his honorable discharge, John returned to MSU in Bozeman where he received his Mechanical Engineering Degree. He began his engineering carrier with the Standard Oil Company in California. His work took him to the Bahamas? and Texas over the years. In 1981 he returned to the Baker area to help on the family ranch. Along with ranching, he worked for WBI in Baker and Glendive until retiring in 2001. John enjoyed scuba diving, collecting guns and reloading shells. He especially enjoyed his nieces and nephews, all of which he had a special relationship with him. John passed away on Wednesday, November 28, 2007 at Billings Clinic in Billings, MT. Survivors include, his parents, Harvey and Ruth Nichols of Baker; two sisters, Lennie Nichols, Gearhart, OR and Marjorie (Bill) Rowley, Clancy, MT; a sister-in-law: Nikki (Clayton) Verke, Baker; four nephews, Greg Traweek, Jeff (Angela) Nichols, Scott Nichols and Chris Rowley; two nieces, Susan (Dan) Miller and Alicia Rowley; four great-nephews and nieces, Kacey and Kaitlin Miller and Taylor and James Nichols. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jim Nichols. Memorials may be given to the Quality Personal Care or the American Lutheran Church both in Baker, Montana. Visitation will be 10:30 a. m. to 8:00 p. m. on Sunday, December 2, 2007 at Stevenson Funeral Home in Baker, MT continuing on Monday one hour prior to the service at the church. John passed away on Wednesday, November 28, 2007 at Billings Clinic in Billings, MT.
