John Staihar

John Staihar, 89, Killdeer, died Saturday, April 29, 2006 at Hill Top Home of Comfort, Killdeer. Graveside services will be 3:30 p. m. , Friday, May 5, 2006 at St. Demetrius Cemetery, rural Belfield. John Staihar was born August 28, 1917 to Ukrainian immigrants, Nick and Anna Staihar. They lived in a sod home near Belfield. His father died in the 1918 flu epidemic. Handicapped since birth, John was cared for and lived with Mary Stuss on a farm north of Belfield. He enjoyed grooming and caring for horses. John is survived by: a sister, Olga Tofte, Eugene, OR, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by: his parents; one brother, Mike Staihar and one sister, Kathryn Staihar Slack.
