John passed away Thursday, January 04, 2018 at his home in Dickinson.
John Joseph was born February 26, 1932 in New England, the son of Raphael and Odilia Sticka. According to John, “he was a good looking baby and such a nice kid too”. As a young boy, he attended school in New England through the eighth grade. He met the love of his life, Shirley Samson at a barn dance. They were married on October 25, 1954 and blessed with ten kids who were all his “favorite”. John started out farming for a few years, then after a couple of moves and various jobs, he brought his family back to New England. John’s heart was always in farming. Alongside farming, he worked at Koffler Manufacturing for twenty years (1967-1987). John and Shirley moved to Dickinson, retiring from the farm, where he helped her with their craft store and craft shows. John will be remembered wearing his signature plaid shirt with one button closed, shorts, white socks and black loafers. He enjoyed laying in the hammock, giving horseback rides to his grandkids and great-grandkids, whittling crooked canes and most importantly, praying the rosary daily.
John is survived by his wife, Shirley; sons, Paul (Laura) Sticka of Walla Walla, WA, Charlie (Nancy) Sticka of Buckley, WA; daughters, Rita (Dennis) Baer of Richardton, Deb (Jerry) Pachl of Dickinson, Janet Baisch of Hudson, CO, Linda (Tim) Plemel of Oakes, Kathy (Donnie) Hangas of Bonney Lake, WA, Kristie Sticka of Whitehall, PA; 20 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raphael and Odilia; son, Raphael “Ralph” Sticka; daughter, Mary Lou Sticka.
