John Thomas was born January 27, 1916, in Fayette, to Joseph and Anna (Immel) Thomas. He attended school in Fayette and music school in Minneapolis, Minn. John was an amateur boxer and served in the C. C. C. ?s. John served in the U. S. Army from February 22, 1942, and was Honorably Discharged on August 13, 1945. John was a rancher all of his life and loved horses and broke them to ride. He loved music. In his younger years he tuned pianos and played many musical instruments and had a band called the ?Melody Kings. ? Later in life, John sang with the barbershop chorus. John entered Hill Top Home of Comfort on January 11, 1999. He was an avid reader. John was a member of the North Dakota Stockman?s Association, Appaloosa and Quarter Horse Association, Killdeer Saddle Club, American Legion, St. Edward?s Catholic Church, Fayette and St. Joseph?s Catholic Church, Killdeer. John is survived by: one brother, Joe (LaVonne) Thomas, Rosalia, Wash. ; two sisters, Philomina (Elsworth) Hovden, Killdeer and Jean (Dan) Schepper, Killdeer; one brother-in-law, George Hartman, Mesa, Ariz. and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by: his parents; two sisters, Rose Schmidt and Stella Hartman; two brothers, Frank and Ralph Thomas; one sister-in-law, Bernice Thomas and one brother-in-law, Carl Schmidt. Memorials are preferred to: Home on the Range, 16351 I-94, Sentinel Butte, ND 58654.
