John passed away Friday, January 17, 2014 at the Wibaux County Nursing Home, Wibaux, MT. John Wayne Turner was born September 19, 1942 in Minot, ND. He grew up the oldest of four children to Wayne and Margaret (Smith) Turner. While attending school John continued to work on the family farm until he graduated from New Town High School in 1960. During this time he married Geraldine Grimstad. The couple made their home in Minnesota where John worked as a manager of a shoe store. Several years later, they returned to North Dakota where John began his life-long career in the oil field. The oil field work took John, Geraldine and their two daughters, Kim and Kay, to various cities throughout western North Dakota such as, Williston, Watford City and Dickinson. The family also spent a year in Iran while John worked for Amarada Hess. They returned to New Town for a few years, but John moved on to find more Oilfield work in Dickinson, Denver, and eventually Rapid City. In 1977 John met JoBeth Harrison and her daughter Tamra. John and JoBeth were married and the family grew to five. The family made their home in Dickinson, before moving to California in 1985, where John was able to do the things he enjoyed. They later moved to Denver where John enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. John retired to Dickinson to be closer to his daughters and their families, until failing health forced him to enter into the nursing home where he spent the last five years of his life. John loved being around children, especially spending time with his own grandchildren. He was an avid pool player and carried a lifelong passion for the oil field. John made friends at every stop in life; he made time for others and truly cared about them. He lived life to the fullest and did so without any regrets. The family would like to especially thank the staff of the Wibaux County Nursing Home, for taking such special care of their father as if he was their own Dad. In lieu of flowers, John’s family suggest memorials be made to a fund they have established. John is survived by his three children, Kimberly Braun, New England, ND; Kaylene (Curtis) Haider, Dickinson, ND; Tamra Turner, Denver, CO; his father, Wayne Turner, Bismarck, ND; Grandchildren, Shane (Desirae) Stangle and their children, Jade, Dennis and Skylar; Deven (Kayla) Turner and their son Blaine; Jordyn Ebbole; Brian and Lexi Braun; brother, Bob (Sheila) Turner, New Town, ND; sister, Judy (Larry) Schell, Mandan, ND; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret, a brother Brian Turner and an infant brother.
