Funeral Mass for Joseph Goroski, 87, of Baker is 11:00 a. m. Tuesday, October 23, 2007 at the St. John?s Catholic Church in Baker with Father Thomas Tobin officiating. Burial will be with Military Honors in the St. John?s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday, October 22, 2007 from 9:00 a. m. to 9:00 p. m. at the Stevenson Funeral Home in Baker with a Rosary being recited at 7:00 p. m. at the Chapel. Visitation will continue on Tuesday, from 8:00 a. m. to one hour prior to the service at the chapel. Joseph passed away on October 19, 2007 at the Ft. Meade Veteran?s Hospital in Sturgis, SD. Joseph David Goroski was born on March 17, 1920 the son of August and Agatha (Pulczinski) Goroski on a farm six miles west of Carlyle, MT. He attended country school and high school in Ollie and Carlyle, Montana. During the great depression of the 1930?s Joe enrolled into the Civilian Conservation Corps from October 6, 1936 till March 31, 1939. On May 7, 1941 he entered the United States Marine Corps and served in the South Pacific area, including Guadalcanal, Tarawa and Okinawa during WW II and remained in the active reserves. Joe was married to Christine H. Novacek on October 12, 1948 in Leo, Minnesota. After his marriage he was recalled back to active duty on November 25, 1949 for four years at which time he served in the South and Central Korea against enemy forces. Joe fought from December 10, 1950 to April 17, 1951, and was then given an honorable discharge on June 11, 1951. Joe returned home and farmed the home place until moving to Baker in August of 1963 at which time he started his carpentry business. After moving to Baker he worked for Herbst Construction and Susa Construction. In 1971, he started his own construction company with Paul Zachmann. While working construction, he and the company built numerous homes and remodeled many others. In the spring of 1980 the company was dissolved and Joe continued to do carpentry work, mainly remodeling until 1985 when he semi-retired. Joe enjoyed fishing especially taking his granddaughter, Chrissy along and playing the fiddle. He became very proficient at repairing and refurbishing fiddles. He was considered a master craftsman with a great eye for the details of the finish work on all of his jobs. He was a very active member of Knights of Columbus and was a 4th Degree Knight. He was also a member of the American Legion and the Montana Fiddlers Association. Survivors include, his wife, Christine Goroski, Baker; a daughter, Marlene O?Connell, Great Falls, MT; three sons, Jerry (Robin) Goroski, Great Falls, MT, Leonard (Jackie) Goroski, Lewistown, MT and Adrian Goroski, Baker, MT; a brother, Lawrence Goroski, Miles City, MT; two sisters, Cecelia Gorman, Yuma, CO and Mary Yost, Greeley, CO; six grandchildren, Patrick, Angie Goroski, Aaron Goroski, Colby and Cassidy O?Connell and Chrissy Goroski; and two great grandchildren, Jacek O?Connell and Grace Goroski. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son-in-law, Jerry O?Connell; four brothers and five sisters.
