Joseph Henry Keck was born October 3, 1923 in Hettinger County, the son of John and Theresa (Keller) Keck. The family made their home around the Lefor area where. Joe began his farming career at an early age working with his parents, he also delivered the mail while riding on his shetland pony, Silver. On July 24, 1944, he married Eleanor Wax at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church in Lefor. The couple made their home on the farm 6 miles North West of Lefor and it was here where they raised their two daughters. Along with raising grain and dairy cattle, Joe also worked at the ASC office, measuring land and grain bins. In 1987 Joe and Eleanor retired to Dickinson and it was here where they made their home ever since. In his early years, Joe played in the Lefor band and performed at the Governors inauguration. He carried his love of music throughout his life, always making time for a good polka or waltz. He was a member of the German Hungarian Club, Eagles Club, and Queen of Peace Catholic Church. Joe also enjoyed following the St. Louis Cardinals and having coffee with his friends at McDonalds. He will be remembered for being soft spoken, kind-hearted, hardworking man that would do anything for his wife, girls and grandchildren. Joe taught us so much, but most of all he showed us how to love. That is why our tears are merely love leaking out. Joe is survived by his loving wife of nearly 70 years, Eleanor; daughters Donna Fritz of Hortonville, WI and Sandy (Francis) Klein of Dickinson; grandchildren, Terry (Tammy) Fritz, Tami (Jeff) Adolf, Mike (Amanda) Klein and Mark (Lori) Klein; great-grandchildren, Brendan, Andrew and Britney Adolf and C. J. Klein. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Theresa Keck; infant brother and sister, John and Theresa; brother, John C; sister, Katherine Wax; and son-in-law, Gary Fritz.
