Funeral Service for Joseph ?Joby? Padden, 80, of Camp Crook, SD will be at 11:00 a. m. on Thursday, August 26, 2010, at the Camp Crook Community Center in Camp Crook, SD with Tom Stieg officiating. Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery at Camp Crook with Military Rites by the Ekalaka American Legion and VFW and the Montana Army National Guard Honor Guard. Visitation will be 6:00 p. m. to 9:00 p. m. on Wednesday, August 25th at Stevenson Funeral Home in Ekalaka, MT with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p. m. Visitation will continue on Thursday, at Camp Crook one hour prior to the service. Joby passed away on Saturday, August 21, 2010, at Dahl Memorial Health Care in Ekalaka, MT. Joseph T ?Joby? Padden was born in Camp Crook, SD on September 20, 1929, the oldest son of Thomas and Hazel Padden. Joby grew up on the family ranch west of Camp Crook in Carter County. He attended grade school at the Rema School on Tie Creek in Carter County. Hazel and her children lived in the Dolan house in Camp Crook where Joby attended high school with classes held in the Fair Building (high school at one end and grade school on the other). His mother taught school and his brothers and sister also attended school in Camp Crook. Joby attended Camp Crook High School his freshman and sophomore years. Then, he boarded with the Stuart family in Ekalaka his junior and senior years, graduating from Carter County High School in 1947. In the fall of 1949, Joby was drafted into the United States Army where he was stationed in Japan. He served there until his Honorable discharge in 1953. Following his service during the Korean Conflict between 1951 and 1953, Joby retuned to the ranch where he lived his entire life. Joby married Jeannie O?Connor on May 24, 1979 in Camp Crook, SD. Joby was very active in the Camp Crook community and Carter County. He served faithfully for 24 years as County Commissioner, and was the Commissioner Representative on the District 7 Action for Eastern Montana Board in Glendive. He was a member of the Ekalaka Track and Arena; secretary for the Camp Crook Roping Club and was very active with the Harding County Rodeo. Joby was a member of the Carter County Sheep and Cattle Growers Association and the Ekalaka American Legion Post and VFW Post. Joby enjoyed ranching with his brother, Jim Tom, on their 100 year old ranch in Carter County and has been able to continue the ranching tradition since 1886. Raising livestock was his life?s passion, but his greatest love was for his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Joby is survived by his wife, Jeannie Padden; their children, Vivian (Tim) Pendergrass, Bill Dingfelder, Diane (Bill) Wear, Mike Pacetti, Ron (Nancy) Dingfelder, Neil (Kristi) Dingfelder, Irene (CJ) Jacobs, Fred (Michelle) Dingfelder, George (Steph) Dingfelder and Karen (Craig) Cheguis; two brothers, Willard John (Juanita) Padden and Thomas Jimmison III ?Jim Tom? Padden; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Jimmison II and Hazel, and his two sisters, Jo Anne and Mary Jane.
