A funeral Mass for Joseph Roshau, 95, of Killdeer, ND, will be 10:30 a. m. , Thursday, November 19, 2015 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Killdeer with Father Darnis Selvanayakam celebrating. Burial will take place in the Killdeer Cemetery. Visitation for Joe will be 4:30 p. m. to 5:30 p. m. , Wednesday, November 18th at Stevenson Funeral Home in Killdeer with a rosary and vigil service being held at 5:30 p. m. Joe passed away Saturday, November 14, 2015 at the Hill Top Home of Comfort, Killdeer. Joseph was born June 6, 1920 to Emil and Katherine (Geiger) Roshau, the 6th of 12 children. He grew up on the family farm north of Killdeer and attended Killdeer Public School through the eighth grade. He did a short stint in the CCC’s and was inducted into the US Army on October 3, 1942. Joe served with the Army C Company 50th Combat Engineers with the 7th Infantry Division. Joe was involved in the invasions of Attu & Kiska in the Aleutian Islands, the Marshall Islands, Leyte in the Philippines and Okinawa. He was discharged on Christmas Day in 1945. As a World War II veteran, Joe waited 55 years to receive three medals that he earned during the war. He was very proud of his service to our country. Joe married Eva Schmalz on October 23, 1950. To this union, four children were born. He worked various jobs prior to becoming Killdeer City Maintenance Superintendent, where he worked for 25 years until retirement. Joe was a very gifted artist. He sketched all of his life and began painting in the early 70’s. His paintings hang in many homes today, as he gave them as gifts. Joe also made beautiful canes from Diamond Willow, which were also given as gifts. He loved to read western novels until his eyesight began to fail ten years ago. Joe was a member of the American Legion, Knights of Columbus, Killdeer Firemen, and St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Joe is survived by his sons, Tim, Killdeer, ND, Calvin, Crossville, AL; daughter, Paula (Lonnie) Maclin, Bismarck, ND; three grandsons, one granddaughter, one great-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Eva; 2-yr old son, Gregory; daughter-in-law, Jean; and all of his siblings.
