Joseph ?Joe? Thomas, age 80, of Glen Ullin died Sunday, December 11, 2005 at the Marian Manor Health Care Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, December 14, 2005 at 10:30 AM Central Time at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glen Ullin with the Rev. Sebastian Schmidt OSB as Celebrant. Visitation will begin on Tuesday after 5:00 pm at the church with vigil services at 7:00 PM. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Glen Ullin with military rites by the Lawrence Higbee Post #239 of the American LegionJoe was born June 19, 1925 in rural Glen Ullin, the son of Adam and Melchina (Hoerner) Thomas. He was raised in the St. Joe ? Heart Butte area. He worked on the farm until he was drafted into the US Army in 1945. Following discharge he returned to the area where he married Frances Hellman on January 7, 1946. They started their married life on the Nick Kuhn farm but in 1951 they purchased the Joe Fitterer farm which they operated for many years. In his younger years Joe enjoyed bowling, sometimes on as many as three leagues. He also enjoyed socializing, playing cards and visiting. Frances died on March 19, 1976. On November 12, 1982 Joe married Charlene Huber Miller. Following marriage they resided in Glen Ullin. Joe was a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Joe Men?s Society, and the Moose Lodge. Those left to share in his memory are his wife Charlene, Glen Ullin; his three daughters: Irene (Gerald) Wetzel; Jan (Francis) Ziegler, and Kim Thomas all of Bismarck, ND; and his three sons: Allan ( Patti), Bismarck, ND; Jeffrey (Cindy), Hazen, ND; and David (Joyce), Achworth, GA; His step children: Sherrie (Keith) Gietzen, Glen Ullin, ND; Loren (Marilyn Miller, Puyallup, WA; and Candace Seabury, Bismarck, ND; his 17 grandchildren: Steve Wetzel, Jennifer Wetzel, Michelle (Brian) Biberdorf, Jason (Krista) Herner, Mark (Carey) Ziegler, Nicole (Hunt) Boustead, Carrie (Mitch) Moszer, Bryan, Kayla, and Paige Thomas, Whitney Jacobson, Erin, Michael, Megan Thomas, Jared, Jennifer, and Janelle Gietzen, Danielle and Joel Schmidt and eight great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother: Marcus, Glen Ullin, ND; and five sisters: Gertie Emter, Glen Ullin, ND; Eva Hauck, Dickinson; Clementine Lawrence, Sacremento, CA; Eleanor Stockert, Dickinson, ND; Helen Bechtold, Glen Ullin, ND and his mother-in-law: Marie Huber, Glen Ullin. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Frances, his brothers Nick and John, a son-in-law: Harold Herner and an infant sister Irene, and father-in-law: Fred Huber.
