Josephine was born June 8, 1930 in Dickinson, the daughter of Joseph and Katherine (Hess) Abfalder. She grew up on a farm near Hirschville, ND, attended school in Gladstone through the eighth grade, and continued helping out on the family farm. On October 28, 1947, Josephine married Ralph Keller at St. Phillips in Hirschville. The couple was blessed with ten children who lived on the farm for several years before moving to Dickinson. Josephine later married Elmer Meier on July 2, 1992 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. As a devoted wife and mother, she worked for over 25 years as a CNA at St. Benedict’s Health Center. Josephine enjoyed bingo, word search, embroidery, whist, Old Time Polka and Country music and Branson Missouri Tours. Baking stretch strudel, kuchen and picnics were also a joy for her.
