Funeral Mass for Josephine Kordonowy, 94, of Dickinson, ND, formerly of Belfield, ND will be Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at St. Bernard?s Catholic Church, Belfield, ND at 10:00 a. m. with Father Shannon Lucht celebrating. Burial will follow at St. Bernard?s Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, July 13, 2009 from 12:00 p. m. (noon) until 4:00 p. m. at Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson, ND, and continuing at 5:00 p. m. with Rosary and Vigil taking place at 7:00 p. m. at St. Bernard?s Catholic Church in Belfield, ND. Josephine Piotrowski Kordonowy was born October 14, 1914 one mile north of Heart Butte in Grant County to John Duletski and Mary Karsowski. At the age of one and half, she went to live with her Aunt and Uncle Scherbinski in Elgin, ND until the age of nine. She then returned to her parents when the Scherbinski?s moved to Michigan. She attended school at the Heart Butte School until 1926 when the family moved to Belfield where she finished her schooling and helped her dad with farming. On June 2, 1931 she married Charles Piotrowski and to this union 13 children were born. Charles worked for the Northern Pacific Railway for 35 years which moved the family around to numerous communities before Charles passed away on April 22, 1963. On July 3, 1972, Josephine married William Kordonowy and he passed away on April 4, 1989. Josephine enjoyed making quilts, sewing and did fancy works. She cooked for many wedding and banquets. She also cooked at St. Bernard?s School for 5 years when it first opened. She was a member of St. Bernard?s Christian Mothers Guild and American Legion Auxiliary. Josephine is survived by 5 daughters, Victoria (Ernest) Schneider, Belfield, ND; Margie (George) Hoffman, Belfield, ND; Virginia Palaniuk, Belfield, ND; Brenda (Edward) Roller, Belfield, ND; and Charlene (Eddie) Praus, Hettinger, ND; 3 sons, Leonard (Gail) Piotrowski, Austin, TX; Larry Piotrowski, New England, ND; and Charles (LaRae) Piotrowski, Dickinson, ND; 24 grand children, 30 great-grand children, 2 sisters, Helen (Harold) Odermann, Dickinson, ND; Emilia Kreitinger, Bismarck, ND. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 husbands; one infant son, sons Joe & John Piotrowski; 2 daughters, Barbara Lawrence & Marie Cerkoney; 3 son-in-laws, 6 sisters, 1 brother, 2 grand daughters, 1 grandson and 2 great-grandchildren.
