Funeral Mass for Josephine (Keller) Meier, 87, of Mandan, formally of Dickinson, will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church with Msgr. Patrick Schumacher celebrating. Burial will take place in the church cemetery.
Visitation for Josephine will be 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 3rd at Stevenson Funeral Home with a rosary and vigil service being held at 6:00 p.m.
Josephine passed away Friday, September 29, 2017 at Miller Pointe, Mandan.
Josephine was born June 8, 1930 in Dickinson, the daughter of Joseph and Katherine (Hess) Abfalder. She grew up on a farm near Hirschville, ND, attended school in Gladstone through the eighth grade, and continued helping out on the family farm. On October 28, 1947, Josephine married Ralph Keller at St. Phillips in Hirschville. The couple was blessed with ten children who lived on the farm for several years before moving to Dickinson. Josephine later married Elmer Meier on July 2, 1992 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. As a devoted wife and mother, she worked for over 25 years as a CNA at St. Benedict’s Health Center. Josephine was a very kind-hearted lady who never complained. She volunteered her time for the Trinity Mardi Gras and as a Senior Companion. She was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church and St. Anthony Club. Family always came first and she felt blessed when spending time with her kids and grandchildren. Josephine enjoyed bingo, word search, embroidery, whist, Old Time Polka and Country music and Branson Missouri Tours. Baking stretch strudel, kuchen and picnics were also a joy for her. Josephine will be remembered for her owl collection and as the Grandma with the “Big” pancakes.
Josephine is survived by her children: Gary (Barb) Keller of Dickinson, Elaine (Ron) Kadrmas of Dickinson, Karen (Ralph) Reyes of Lenoir City, TN, Cheryl (Tim Monson) Keller of Hawley, MN, Pam Pavlicek of Mandan, Dale Keller of Polson, MT, Brenda (Miles) Bosch of Bismarck, Mark (Brenda Kathrein) Keller of Dickinson, Brian (Tiffany Conrad) Keller of Dickinson; 25 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchildren; sister, Rosemary (Leo) Kurtz of Dickinson; sister-in-law, Rosemary (Bill) Barta of Billings, MT.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Katherine and Joseph Abfalder; husbands, Ralph Keller and Elmer Meier; son, Ralph “Randy” Keller Jr.; granddaughter, Melinda Pavlicek; sister, Kathleen Heidecker; brother, William Abfalder.
