Funeral Mass for Julie B. LaCross, 79, of Baker will be 10:00 a. m. Saturday, October 15, 2005 at St. John?s Catholic Church in Baker with Father Thomas Tobin officiating. Interment will follow at the Bonnievale Cemetery in Baker. Visitation will be 8:00 a. m. to 9:00 p. m. Friday October 14, 2005 with a Rosary at 7:00 p. m. at Stevenson Funeral Home in Baker. She passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2005 at St. Luke’s Extended Care Center in Ronan, MT. Julie was born November 12, 1925 the only daughter of Sylvan and Martha (Walker) Bennett. She was born in her grandparent?s home at 621 Chestnut, Anaconda, MT. Julie spent her earlier years living in Racetrack, MT and attending grade school in Deer Lodge at St. Mary?s Academy. After graduating from Powell County High School, she attended the University of Montana where she earned her teaching certificate. Julie taught school for one year in St. Ignatius, MT before moving to Baker to teach second grade. It was during this time that Julie met Francis B. LaCross. They were married May 11, 1949 in Miles City, MT and were blessed with four children. After spending time at home raising her family, Julie returned to teaching in 1967. Ten years later she returned to the classroom as a student and received her master?s degree in administration in 1978. She became the middle school principal in Baker until her retirement in 1990. Julie enjoyed her retirement years in Baker and could always be seen out and about with the ?Golden Girls? (Anastasia Corey and Marge Russell). She also spent much of her time crocheting, sewing, and drawing. She was a staple of the Baker community for many years and will be greatly missed. ?Our hats off to you, Julie. ? She is survived by her two sons: Lon LaCross (special friend, Monica) of Baker, MT; Rock LaCross of Missoula, MT; two daughters: Judeann (Dan) Watson of Fairbanks, AK; Sheila (Monty) Haselhuhn of Forsyth, MT; three brothers: Gene (Eva) Bennett of Deer Lodge, MT; Buck (Jimmie) Bennett of California; Greg (Marie) Bennett of Ronan, MT; seven grandchildren: Heather (Brandon) Houston; Dru Watson; Seth (Shannon) Haselhuhn; Mandie Haselhuhn; Michael (Kristia) Loutzenhiser; Sylvan and Logan LaCross; five great-grandchildren: Holly, Stone, Alex, Sean, and Ivan. She was preceded in death by both of her parents, her husband, Francis and three brothers: Sylvan Bennett, Jack Bennett, and Bill Bennett. The family prefers memorials to Alzheimer Foundation of America.
