Karen Schaeffer

A Rosary and gathering of friends will be 7:00 p.m., Thursday, September 6, 2018 at Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson with Deacon Bob Stockert celebrating. Burial will be at a later date at the North Dakota Veteran’s Cemetery.


Karen passed away Saturday, September 1, 2018 at CHI St. Alexius Health in Bismarck.


Karen Ann was born May 11, 1950, in Bakersfield, CA to Kenneth and June (Whitten) Nielsen.  At age five, the family moved to her grandparents’ home in New England and made that their home. She graduated from New England High School in 1968.  Karen married Keith Schaeffer on January 11, 1969 in Amidon, ND.  Their marriage was blessed with two sons, Klinton and Kyle. Karen had various jobs throughout the years including sewing, Killdeer Mountain Manufacturing, and Mini-Mart. She enjoyed crafting, gardening, cross-stitching, reading, and listening to 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s music.


Karen is survived by her husband, Keith; sons, Klinton Schaeffer (fiancé, Tonya Kottre) of Dickinson, and Kyle (Carla) Schaeffer of Dickinson.


She was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and June Nielsen; sister, Betty Heck; father and mother-in-law, Joe and Ann Schaeffer; and brother-in-law, Randy Schaeffer.
