A funeral Mass for Kasper “Kap” Heidt, 96, of New England, will be 10:00 a. m. , Friday, Dec. 11, 2015 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New England with Father Charles Heidt celebrating. Burial will take place in St. Helen’s Cemetery in Kennedy Twshp following the lunch. Visitation for Kap will be from 1:00 p. m. to 4:00 p. m. , Thursday, Dec. 10, 2015 at Stevenson Funeral Home in Dickinson, continuing at 6:00 p. m. with a rosary and vigil service being held at 7:00 p. m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New England. Visitation will continue on Friday one hour before the Mass. Kasper passed away on Monday, December 7, 2015 at the St. Benedict’s Health Center, Dickinson, ND. Kasper was born November 26, 1919, at St. Placidus in Hettinger County, the son of Albinus and Eugenia (Greff) Heidt. Growing up, he attended Ott School in Kennedy Township for eight years and one year at St. Pius High School, Sheffield, ND. In 1936, he joined the Civil Conservation Corp. He was inducted in March 1942, as a US Army soldier, Kap served his country during WWII. On June 20, 1943, Kap married Josephine Obritschkewitsch in Camp Adair, Oregon. He served one year in Germany. Following his honorable discharge in 1945, Kap returned home and began farming in the New England area. They were blessed with a full house of children, Claude, Cornelius, Albinus, Eugene, Gerard, Marvin, Bernardine, Patricia, Lucille, Rose Ann, Vivian and Lorraine. Kap was a farmer at heart and he loved raising his family on the farm. Kap and Josie retired in 1981. When he wasn’t busy with the farm, he enjoyed playing cards, traveling with family and making toys for his grandchildren. He loved to tell stories “and that’s a fact!”. Kap was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and led the Rosary at daily Mass. He was a member of the New England Senior Center, American Legion, the Knights of Columbus, and St. Pius Verein. He will be dearly missed. Kasper is survived by his wife, Josephine “Josie”; sons, Cornelius “CJ” (Carol), Albinus “Al” (Cindy), Eugene “Gene” (Cindy); daughters, Bernardine “Bernie” (Tom) Gorek, Patricia “Pat”, Lucille “Luckie” (Keith) Greig, Rose Ann “Rose” (Vernon) Gustin, Vivian (Dave) Hernandez, Lorraine (Eric) Richard; 26 grandchildren and 49 great-grandchildren; sisters, Leontine Gabel, Sister Dolores, OSB-Order of St. Benedict, Sister Lucille, OSB-Order of St. Benedict; brothers, James (Rose Mary), Richard (Diane), Fr. Charles, Donald (Donna); and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Claude, Gerard “Gerry” and infant Marvin; brothers, Phillip, Frank, Edward, 3 infant brothers, Cyriak, Adam and John; granddaughter, Kerry Heidt; grandson, Kourtney Greig; great-granddaughter, Grace Greig. Memorials may be given to CHI St. Joseph’s Health, Heartland Hospice or the St. Mary’s Cemetery fund in New England.
