A Parastas for Katherine Hlibichuk, 95, of Belfield, will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 23, 2012 at Stevenson Funeral Home Chapel in Dickinson with Father Taras Miles celebrating. Burial will follow at St. John’s Ukrainian Cemetery in Belfield.
Visitation for Katherine will be 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at Stevenson Funeral Home in Dickinson with a Vigil service being held at 7:00 p.m.
Katherine passed away Sunday, August 19, 2012 at St. Benedict’s Health Center in Dickinson.
Katherine Twardoski was born April 18, 1917, on the family farm in Gorham, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Gawryluk) Twardoski. She grew up and attended school in Gorham. After the eighth grade, Katherine worked for various families around the Belfield area. Katherine met and married Metro Bob Hlibichuk in May of 1936 at St. Josephat. The couple made their home in Belfield where they raised their children, Bob, Ted and Shirley. After Bob passed away in 1972, Katherine worked at Ted’s Cafe, where she baked all the pastries. She was proud to call Belfield her home until she moved into St. Benedict’s Health Center in 2010. Katherine was a dedicated homemaker who enjoyed baking and canning, especially Ukrainian specialties. She also spent time sewing, crocheting, gardening, working with flowers and listening to Ukrainian music. Katherine will be remembered as a very loving and caring mother, grandmother and sister.
Katherine is survived by her daughter, Shirley Stetson of Bismarck; two sons, Robert “Bob” (Eva) Hlibichuk and Theodore Hlibichuk of Belfield; 17 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and 6 great great-grandchildren; brother, Emil (Rosalie) Twardoski of Beach; five sisters, Sophie McCrosky of Stonewall, LA, Pauline Tillman of Camas, WA, Mary Reiner of Bismarck, Regina (Frank) Morel of Gladstone, and Betty (Walter) Dutchuk of Bismarck.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Mary Twardoski; two brothers, Mike and Pete Twardoski; three sisters, Joyce Ganson, Rose Tooley, and Anna Sivak; and one granddaughter.
