The Mass of Christian Burial for Katherine E. Huschka, 85, of Dickinson will be at 11 a. m. , Saturday, February 24, 2007 at St. Patrick?s Catholic Church, Dickinson, with Fr. Austin Vetter celebrating. Interment will be in St. Patrick?s Cemetery, Dickinson. Visitation will be 11 a. m. to 9 p. m. Friday, February 23, 2007 at Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson, with a rosary at 7 p. m. Katherine passed away Monday, February 19, 2007 at St. Joseph?s Hospital and Health Center, Dickinson. Katherine Elizabeth Huschka was born December 17, 1921 to Joseph and Katherine (Huth) Schiwal on the family farm between Gladstone & Lefor, ND. Kate grew up and attended the local one-room school house. After school she remained on the family farm and helped raise her younger siblings. On September 14, 1948 Kate married Peter Huschka at St. Elizabeth?s Catholic Church in Lefor. The couple made their living on various farms throughout Stark county before settling in Belfield in 1962. It was here that they called home for nearly 30 years as they raised their 13 children. Kate moved to Dickinson in 1991 where she has made her home ever since. Kate enjoyed sewing, both quilting and embroidery. She was also very fond of gardening, reading, and cooking, especially her baking. She was a member of Christian Mothers and St. Barbara?s Guild of St. Bernards in Belfield. Kate especially treasured her time with family. Family was the highlight of her life. Her strong religious practices and beliefs and her devotion to the Blessed Mary gave her peace and strength throughout her life. Kate is survived by 11 of her children, James (Marilyn Oster) Huschka of Dickinson; Rita and Ronald Lund of Aurora, CO; Pearl and Richard Jorgenson of Menoken, ND; Peter and Rita Huschka of Williston, ND; Marilyn and Curtis Grafsgaard of Dickinson; Jane Collins (Bernie Krebs) of Dickinson; Karla and Edward Buckman of Belfield, ND; Mark Huschka of Bowman, ND; Joel Huschka (Roberta Braun) of Belfield, ND; Roger and Melissa Huschka of Casper, Wyoming; Charles Huschka (Bernice Dorval) of Belfield, ND; three brothers, John Schiwal of St. Lake City, Utah; Frank (Shirley) Schiwal of Layton, Utah; Paul (Leona) Schiwal of Dickinson; two sisters, Rose Marie Huschka of Eagan, Minnesota, Joanne (Jerry) Todd of Omaha, Nebraska; one sister-in-law, Martha Schiwal; 25 grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, and 26 great-grandchildren. She is preceeded in death by: her parents; husband, Pete; two sons, Michael and Peter B. Huschka; five brothers, Karl, Joseph, Anton, Michael, and Karl Schiwal; a son-in-law, Gerald Collins, and twin granddaughters. A memorial will be established in memory of Kate.
