Funeral Mass for Karen Murtha will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 18, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Father Patrick Ojedeji celebrating. Burial will take place at a later date.

Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, November 17th at Stevenson Funeral Home with a Rosary and Vigil being held at 7:00 p.m.

Katherine A. “Karen” (Miklautsch) Murtha passed away at Methodist Hospital on November 10, 2017 in Minneapolis, MN at the age of 83.

Karen was born on June 22, 1934 in Dickinson to Vincent and Susanna (Follmer) Miklautsch, the seventh of eight children. She was raised in Dickinson and attended Dickinson High School. She furthered her education at Marquette University and became a Dental Hygienist and later worked in the family law office. Karen married Thomas F. Murtha, on June 19, 1967 at the home of her sister, Marianne in Hales Corners, WI. Together Tom and Karen raised their four boys in Dickinson, ND.

Karen will be fondly remembered by her family and friends. She was an active and dedicated member of her church and could be seen playing the organ at weddings and most Sunday services. She was also generous with her time volunteering often playing daily mass at the local nursing homes or serving oversight at a local election. Karen loved music and gardening. She was an avid reader and an intense sports fan. However, her greatest love was her family. She enjoyed watching her grandkids and attending family events. Karen was an inspiration of love and devotion to her family and was especially fond of her many nieces and nephews.

Karen is survived by her children Thomas F. IV (Janilyn) of Dickinson, J. Patrick (Dana) of Northfield, MN, Daniel (Sarah) of Plymouth, MN and William of Dickinson and her ten grandchildren, Katherine, Thomas F. V, Gwyneth, Rhiannon, Chase, Gabrielle, Brooklyn, Oscar, Maxwell and, Hazel, her sisters, Eleonore, Cecile, and Agnes.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years who died in January of this year, as well as her brother Thomas, sisters Marianne, Theresa, Mary, and daughter Mary Katherine.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorials be made to Trinity Catholic Schools.
