After which she received her teaching certificate and taught country school in Stark and Hettinger Counties for five years during the war. Katherine married William Sticka on April 12, 1948 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New England. They made their home in Golva until 1951 and then moved to Richardton. Their marriage was blessed with seven children, Mary, Irene, Patricia, Paulette, Susan, Noreen and Daniel. After living in Richardton for 40 years, Katherine moved to Dickinson in 1991. She enjoyed sewing clothes for her six little girls, especially dresses for her daughters, quilting and crocheting, making a quilt or afghan for each of her grandchildren. Katherine enjoyed playing games and she was a fierce competitor and hated to lose, (scrabble and cards being her favorites). Katherine was involved with her faith, serving in Richardton as a life member of the Christian Mother’s Society and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was instrumental in establishing St. Mary’s Guild and she served on the Parish Council. Katherine was a 4-H leader and a member of a Homemakers Club in Richardton. She volunteered her time to St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary and RSVP in Dickinson. Katherine loved spending time with her family and she will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
