Katherine passed away, Friday, April 14, 2006 at St. Benedict?s Health Center in Dickinson. Katherine F. Wanner was born March 9, 1917, to Michael and Magdelena (Dassinger) Herold in Lefor, ND. She was one of eleven children that grew up on the family farm south east of Lefor. After completing grade school at St. Elizabeth?s in Lefor, Katherine worked on the family farm. She also worked at various jobs around the area to help support her parents, one of these jobs was at the St. Charles Hotel in Dickinson. It was there that Katherine met John J. Wanner and the two were married on November 27, 1939 at St. Joseph?s Catholic Church in Dickinson. They were blessed with six children. They made their first home on a farm five miles east of Dickinson where they lived in a two-room house with dirt floors. Later the family moved to a dairy farm seven miles east of Dickinson and it was here where Katherine made her home for more than 50 years. She was always busy milking cows and at one time milked over 120 head twice a day. She also found time to work in her huge garden on the farm. As many know, there was always room for extras at the Wanner dinner table and Katherine always had one of her famous apple pies ready. She thoroughly enjoyed Spring because of calving time. When she finally retired from milking cows, she directed her new found free time toward playing cards, especially pinochle. Katherine did a lot of charity work, especially for the American Cancer Society and Trinity Mardi Gras, where she served meals every year until she was 80 years old. She did extensive traveling across the country as well as trips to Italy, Japan, and Germany. Katherine loved spending time with her family especially her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Katherine F. Wanner Scholarship fund for Trinity Catholic School System. Katherine is survived by her three sons, Alvin (Bernice) Wanner of Dickinson, ND; John (Peggy) Wanner of Dickinson, ND; David (Nancy Kostelecky) Wanner, Dickinson, ND; three daughters, Kathleen (Ted) Goelzer of Gladstone, ND; Genevieve (Darrell) Kendall of Cleburne, TX; Marilyn (Peter van Eck) Wanner of Washington, DC; two brothers John (Pauline) Herold of Lefor, ND; Joe (Phyllis) Herold of Dickinson, ND; four sisters, Maggie (Martin) Kuhn of Dickinson, ND; Regina Reindel of Dickinson, ND; Rosemarie (Ray) Carlson of Scottsdale, AZ; Evelyn Herold of Dickinson, ND; Angie Nuss of Dickinson, ND; nine Grandchildren and nine Great-Grandchildren.
