Kathy Bacon, 72, of Dickinson passed away in Fargo, ND on Thursday, August 26, 2021 after a brave battle with cancer.

Kathleen Kay (Kitchen) Bacon was born on June 25, 1949 to Howard and Leatrice (Drury) Kitchen in Dickinson, ND. She grew up and attended school in New Salem, Ellendale and Dickinson, ND. Upon graduation, she attended Dickinson State University and earned a degree in Elementary Education. On August 14, 1971, Kathy was united in marriage to Thomas Bacon and had three daughters, Tammy, Lori and Lisa. As a military wife, her kindness and caring nature brought about many long lasting friendships throughout the many places she lived.

Kathy moved back to Dickinson and worked as a preschool teacher for Head Start until her retirement. Kathy had a gift of connecting with children, and they were equally drawn to her. Her nurturing heart had many kids running to give her a hug even while out shopping. Parents would tell her, “You still are my child’s favorite teacher.” She made every child feel special and continued to substitute teach after retirement. Kathy’s true pride and joy was her family. She always made time for her girls, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and instilled values of love, kindness and loyalty.

Kathy was a talented painter, floral arranger, gardener, seamstress and crafter. Kathy had a big heart and loved to bring joy to others, especially at Christmas, which was her favorite time of year. She always had a kind word to share and showed genuine compassion for others. Her impeccable smile captured the gentle and patient person she was. She is greatly loved and will be missed by all.

Kathy is survived by her mother Lee Kitchen, Killdeer, ND; her daughters, Tammy (Joel) Nelson, Mitchell, SD, Lori (Doug) Howard, Casselton, ND and Lisa (Jeff) Peterson, Monument, CO; siblings, Mike (Phyllis) Kitchen, Lovell, WY, Donna (Dean) Knutson, Dunn Center, ND, Bob Kitchen, Dickinson, ND, and Jim Kitchen, St. Charles, MO; eight grandchildren; Calvin Nelson, Andrew Nelson, Amanda Schleich, Jaimes Nelson, Emalea Nelson, Jonika Howard, Nikita Howard, and Aubrey Peterson; six great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, her father and grandson Ben Howard.
