Funeral service for Kathryn E. Christensen, 96, of Mandan, ND formerly of Halliday, ND will be 10 a. m. , Monday, July 14, 2008 at the Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Halliday, ND with Rev. Joel Sauerwein officiating. Burial will follow in the Werner Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a. m. to 10 a. m. , Monday July 14, 2008 at the church prior to the service. Kathryn passed away July 10, 2008 at Med Center One Care Center in Mandan, ND. Kathryn was born October 16, 1911 the daughter of James and Edith (Knowlton) Darcy on the farm northeast of Dunn Center, ND. She attended Hope School and Werner High School. Kathryn then moved to Rochester, MN to live with her Aunts Nellie and Bess. She worked at Weber & Judd behind the soda counter. Kathryn moved to Seattle, WA where she was a nanny for two different families. She met a family friend and neighbor from North Dakota while in Seattle by the name of Clarence Christensen and they were united in marriage on March 28, 1939. Clarence returned to the Dunn Center area and Kathryn worked in Seattle for a year. She then joined Clarence in ND to help with the farming. In 1942, they purchased a farm north of Werner where they raised their family and resided. Due to failing health, Kathryn moved to Mandan, ND in 1998 to be close to family. She was a member of the Pioneer Homemakers of Halliday. Kathryn enjoyed gardening, cooking, ranching and her animals. She especially loved her family and grandchildren and was very proud of each of them. Kathryn is survived by: daughter; Dee Ann (Bernie) Neibauer, Mandan, ND; brother; L. P. ?Pat? (Evelyn) Darcy, Golden Valley, ND; sister; Delia Hammel, Bismarck, ND; two son-in-laws, Dean Jones, Lincoln, KS and Richard Meier, Jewel, KS; a sister-in-law, Eileen Remsing, Arlington,TX; 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Clarence (1983); son, James (2004); daughters; Sandra Meier (1996) and Ellen Jones (1996); sister, Agatha Schettler (1988); and a brother-in-law Wilbert Hammel.
