Kathryn Dvirnak

A Memorial service for Kathryn “Kay” Dvirnak, 93, of Killdeer, will be held at 2:00 p. m. , Monday, September 1, 2014 at Evangelical Bible Church in Dickinson with Pastor Tim Privratsky officiating. Burial will take place prior to the service at 10:00 a. m. in Oakdale Cemetery, north of Killdeer. Visitation for Kay will be 5:00 p. m. – 7:00 p. m. , Sunday, August 31st at Stevenson Funeral Home (NEW LOCATION – 2067 1st St W) in Dickinson. Kay passed away Sunday, August 24, 2014 at Evergreen in Dickinson. She was born April 6, 1921 at Max, ND, the daughter of Jack and Lena (Honcheroff) Fannik. Kay attended school in the rural Max area and graduated from Minot State Teacher’s College. She was an educator in country schools for several years. On June 25, 1944 she married Elmer Dvirnak at the Max Baptist Church and they began their life together at the Dvirnak ranch by the Killdeer Mountains. Kay was very active in the farming/ranching operation along with Elmer. She was a true partner in all aspects of their life together. Kay was an active member of the Killdeer Baptist Church, Gideon’s Auxiliary, and Mountain View Homemakers Club. Camp Bentley, an American Baptist Camp near Drake, ND, was a special place to her as she attended conferences and volunteered her time. She enjoyed traveling throughout the United States visiting family, friends, and enjoying the wonders of God’s creation. Beautiful flower gardens always graced their yard. She received great pleasure in sharing the bounty from her large vegetable and fruit gardens. Kay was often seen embroidering, quilting, crocheting, or reading. An occasional camping or fishing trip added variety to her life. Kay’s faith in the Lord Jesus Christ was the foundation of her life. This was expressed through her prayer life, daily reading of the scripture, and regular worship attendance at church. In addition, she was blessed with the gift of hospitality which was enjoyed by family, friends, and neighbors. Her family deeply appreciates the spiritual legacy she has left behind. She is survived by her three children: Wayne (Ingrid) Dvirnak, Elizabeth, CO, Deborah (Monte) Greenup, Dickinson, and Timothy (Sally) Dvirnak, Killdeer. Five grandchildren: Aron (Kim) Dvirnak, Parker, CO, Jason (Kassidy) Skjervem, Minot, Kayla (Ryan) Schwartz, Thief River Falls, MN, Joshua (Sarah) Dvirnak, Killdeer, Lizzie (Kory) Krenz. Spokane WA. Thirteen great-grandchildren: Cole and Trent Dvirnak, Hudson, Asher, Owen and Everett Skjervem, Micah, Jillian, and Zander Schwartz, David and Baby Dvirnak (due in September), and Atticus and Truitt Krenz. A sister, Alice Dvirnak formerly of Killdeer, now residing in Galesburg IL, and numerous nieces and nephews. Kay was preceded in death by her husband Elmer, an infant son, Elton, her parents, and three brothers: George, John, and Edward.
