Funeral Mass for Kathryn Heck, 94, formerly of Belfield, ND, will be 10:00 a. m. , Friday, July 23, 2010, at St. Bernard?s Catholic Church in Belfield with Father Jim Braaten celebrating. Burial will follow at the St. Bernard?s Cemetery in Belfield. Visitation will be 2:00 p. m. to 8:00 p. m. , Thursday, July 22, 2010, at Stevenson Funeral Home in Dickinson with a Rosary and Vigil Service at 7:00 p. m. with Deacon Bob Stockert officiating. Kathryn passed away Sunday, July 18, 2010, at St. Benedict?s Health Center in Dickinson. Kathryn was born on August 30, 1915, to Stephen and Celestine (Urlacher) Walter in rural Dunn County, near Hirschville, ND. After her father?s death when she was six, she began working for many families until her marriage. Kathryn loved to dance and met David Heck at a dance. They were married January 19, 1937, at St. Anthony Catholic Church northwest of Dickinson. They began farming in Slope County, and in 1942, purchased a farm in the Gaylord community in Stark County. Kathryn and David retired to Belfield in 1972. Kathryn moved to Dickinson in 1998 and became a resident of St. Benedict?s Health Center in Dickinson in 2007. Kathryn thoroughly loved having ?company? and had a gift for making everyone feel welcome. Music and laughter were always encouraged in her home. She enjoyed sewing every day and completed hundreds of quilts and other crafts through her years. She was a member of St. Bernard?s Catholic Church, St. Theresa?s Guild, and was an RSVP volunteer. Kathryn is survived by her children, Tom (Selma) Heck, Scott City, KS, Leo (Kathy) Heck, Avon, MN, Leonard (Betty) Heck, Belfield, ND, Clementine Wyman, Hazen, ND, and Josie (Bob) Stockert, Dave (Bernie) Heck, and Rita (Joe) Plegge, all of Dickinson, ND; 19 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Magdalene Knopik, Dickinson, ND; one brother, Michael Walter, San Diego, CA; and brother-in-law, Anton Heck, Belfield, ND. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, David, in 1991; her son-in-law, Stanley Wyman; one great-grandchild; two brothers, Joe (Anna) Walter and George (Katie) Walter; three sisters, Eva (Andrew) Hushka, Monica (John) Brown, and Elizabeth (Adam) Heiser; two sisters in infancy, Rose and Rose Marie; and sisters- and brothers-in-law, Berna Jean Walter, John Knopik, Rose and Frank Frank, Frank and Julia Heck, Val and Beatrice Heck, Matt and Nola Heck, and Monica Heck.
